Myths About Paid Search Marketing | Raleigh Internet Marketing Firm

Pay per click marketing or PPC is a tool for promoting your business online. The only reason business owners advertise online (in other words, conduct PPC or optimize their websites for search engines (SEO) is to build website and traffic. There are many benefits for using both these online marketing tools as well as there are certain downsides. While pay per click generates immediate results in promoting a website, search engine optimization improves search engine rakings. In order to carry out an all rounded campaign, internet marketing specialists often use both methods.

Just like SEO, there are also myths surrounding pay per click marketing. May be not as many and as wide spread as SEO, PPC still holds number of misconceptions in the minds of many people.

PPC and Search Engine Rankings
One of the most frequent myths making rounds is that with PPC, one can improve their business’s search engine rankings. It is believed by some that if you use pay per click marketing, you will eventually get a better standing with search engines. That is not true! There is no link between PPC and search engine rankings. While PPC can bring in more targeted visitors, without having to go through the rigorous and long term process of search engine optimization, it has no association with search engine rankings. Ranking is a direct result of optimizing for appearing in organic search results, which is not what PPC does.

Ad Placements
Similarly, any one ad position is not a winner position at all times, for all ads. While placing ads right above the organic search results is a favorite practice among advertisers, it does not mean that that other ad placements do not work. If you are working with Adsense, another good position to advertise is on the left of the page. Since English (and many other languages) are read left to right, the readers’ eyes go back to the left every time they finish reading a sentence. Another idea is to use interactive ads. Just give it real thought before using pay per click to promote your website.
